LEAD SINGER?

After several years with different vocal coaches I felt that I was never able to unlock the full potential of my singing voice. After a few singing lessons with Mark I noticed dramatic improvement in terms of tone, vocal delivery and control which many others have also commented on. I am also able to hit high notes with ease that I once thought wouldn’t be possible, as the techniques we cover each singing lesson help break down those vocal barriers to allow use of the full extent of your voice. What I like about singing lessons with Mark is that he analyses your voice and takes you through a process of doing the right exercises specific to achieve your long term and short term goals.

I’ve been singing since I was very young, but when I began to sing in my band ‘The Rockettes’ and do local gigs around Nottingham, I found some of the songs I wanted to sing I just couldn’t manage. I found myself having to shout to get the top notes, making the quality of the song sound strained, and just generally not very nice sounding whenever I tried to attempt to hit the high notes. I also lacked confidence.

I tried various Musical Theatre classes and even some other singing teachers, but I found that none of them really helped me with the issues I was experiencing. But then I went to an audition for ‘The Voice’ and met Mark who was chatting with one of the producers. Mark handed me his card, and while I was there I got talking to him about the voice and how it works. No other singing teacher had told me how we could treat the voice as an actual instrument and how I could possibly improve and fix those issues I was struggling with.

I’ve been training my voice with Mark since then, and now I’ve seen a major difference with in my vocals – I have seen massive improvements. My voice is far more controlled and I am accessing even higher ranges with power and control. I can now hit high notes without any strain as well as learning riffs in some of my favourite songs that also use my range. These lessons are definitely worth it! I’m always excited to return to my next lesson with Mark to ask him more intriguing question about the voice and work on my voice. Mark has saved me from giving up on my voice and has really given me hope to keep going with it!

I contacted Mark when I searched for a singing teacher in Nottingham in a mood of desperation and concern between singing performances. I have a history of singing with a bad technique, but Mark’s reassurance even in our first phone call made me realise that I wasn’t alone with this issue.

Mark immediately diagnosed what I was doing with my voice that was causing the fatigue and giving me an inability to use my voice to it’s full extent and potential. The relief I felt when he told me, provided me with exercises that would have me singing correctly and the feeling of singing with ease was like nothing I had ever felt before! From that moment I knew I could conquer it. Mark is also teaching me to trust my voice, developing strength, balance and control.

But the best thing about Mark is that he is consistently encouraging and always there for me and my voice when I need him. I can feel the difference and for the first time in my life, I actually understand what I am aiming for, thanks to the way that Mark teaches. I always come out feeling more positive about my voice and my singing! Thanks for everything Mark!

Having wanted to try singing lessons for years I found Mark’s website and decided to take the leap. I was very nervous at first, but Mark made me feel completely at ease and assessed my voice strengths and weaknesses. His knowledge of the functional implications of each sound and how to tailor them to my voice is second to none. I can feel and hear the difference with every lesson and my confidence builds with this. Mark has not only improved my voice but also given me the knowledge to identify my own tendencies and improve on them!

I’d been meaning to invest in some vocal coaching for a long time when a friend of mine introduced me to Mark. It is easy to forget the voice is an instrument for which there is technique to be learnt and improvements to be made! Within just a few sessions spent with Mark I began to better understand my voice and notice the improvements his direction had for my desire to better my lead vocal ability – It’s been particularly great to work on blending that divide us girls often feel between the ‘chest’ and ‘head’ voice! If you’re looking for someone who is relatable and approachable, someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about helping you to improve your voice, get in touch with Mark!

CHOIR MEMBER?

Although I have sung soprano in choirs for years, I used to be afraid of anything above top F# (F#5) and I always felt that the lower part of my range sounded comparatively weak and ‘breathy’. I have now been having lessons with Mark for just over six months and there is a noticeable difference in the power and flexibility of my voice. The lower notes in my chest voice are stronger and richer and I am learning to transition seamlessly into my head voice and up even beyond my third bridge… which is higher than top A! Mark is really good at putting people at ease. When he did a workshop with my choir, every single person was persuaded to sing on their own – even the shyest and oldest – and we were all very much helped and encouraged by Mark’s expert advice. Based on the evidence of what is happening within my own voice, I would strongly recommend both the method and the teacher – Thanks Mark!

Having voice coaching and singing lessons with Mark has noticeably strengthened my voice and increased my confidence in singing. I decided to have voice coaching because singing certain songs (high and loud) with my choir made me feel faint and dizzy, and I suspected breath support was the issue. But after just one singing lesson with Mark, my problem was solved by doing simple exercises which strengthened the tone of my voice. Mark makes coaching sessions fun and relaxed, and he is very encouraging and helpful. My voice has noticeably strengthened and, consequently, my confidence in singing has increased. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting help with their voice.

I have found singing lessons with Mark such a great help. There has been a real improvement in the quality of my voice. In particular, I have a very light voice but now I am able to get some power behind it. I am very happy with the progress I have made in such a short time! If you are thinking of getting singing lessons I would wholeheartedly recommend lessons with Mark.

SING FOR FUN?

Lessons with Mark have worked wonders for my voice from the very first day! He tailors each session to work on specific aspects of my voice and takes the time to explain how each exercise benefits my voice in a really easy to understand way. I always have great fun in lessons and leave with a smile and a real ‘buzz’ from having a great vocal workout!

I was once talking to my friend about singing. I said that I would really like to be able to sing just to be able to bear the sound of my own voice singing in the car. To my horror she bought me a singing lesson with Mark as a surprise birthday present. I was mortified at the thought and rang Mark to say ‘I am completely tone deaf, is that a problem?’, Mark said ‘not at all!’ and by the time I finished the phone conversation he had filled me with all the confidence I needed to have a go, and the belief that I could be able to sing. Mark is amazing, and the fact that I, a relatively self conscious person, am able to have a go no matter how ridiculous I sound (some of the exercises really do sound ridiculous by the way) is a testament to Mark’s teaching skills. He puts you at ease immediately, he is knowledgeable, intuitive and fun. He has inspired me with the confidence that I can sing – this is incredible after only a few lessons and 50 years of believing I can’t. If I can, then anyone can. Give it a go!!!!

I have always been interested in the voice and applying it to singing, but I’d never had any professional lessons, since I was so terrified of what’s involved. A brief chat with Mark made me feel right at ease and I was very excited about my first lesson. I was also starting to seriously get into the guitar and wanted to experiment with vocals together with the guitar and just have fun.

Since working with Mark, my voice has massively improved in a very short period of time, and everyone can notice the difference. In just a very short period of time the improvement has been shocking. Mark makes lessons fun, and makes it clear as to what your being asked to do. Mark has even been able to help me with my guitar playing! I would not hesitate to recommend Mark to any beginner who is considering singing for fun or professionally.

MUSICAL THEATRE?

I contacted Mark when I searched for a singing teacher in Nottingham in a mood of desperation and concern between singing performances. I have a history of singing with a bad technique, therefore resulting in voice loss. Not only was it having a physical effect on me, but a mental one too as it would really worry and upset me due to my singing being my income. Mark’s reassurance in our first phone call made me realise that I wasn’t alone with this issue and he is so clued up on dealing with these problems, I couldn’t wait to start working with him and getting these issues sorted.

By the end of our first vocal exercise together, Mark had diagnosed what I was doing with my voice that was causing the fatigue and giving me an inability to use my voice to it’s full extent and potential. The relief I felt when he told me, provided me with exercises that would have me singing correctly and the feeling of singing with ease was like nothing I had ever felt before! From that moment I knew I could conquer it. Mark is also teaching me to trust my voice. I had lost my faith in it due to it wavering, sounding unbalanced, strained and fatigued during performances. It is as much mind over matter for me because my voice has caused me so much distress in the past!

But the best thing about Mark is that he is consistently encouraging and always there for me and my voice when I need him. I can already feel the difference and for the first time in my life, I actually understand what I am aiming for, thanks to the way that Mark teaches. He sends regular email info about the voice and our lessons are always really good fun. I always come out feeling more positive about my voice and my singing! Thanks for everything Mark!

As an actor, I wish to expand the variety of stage performances that I can perform in. As such, I wanted to take singing lessons because I want to perform in musicals, and not just plays. My singing voice was not the best – I could not sing the notes I wanted to, and it was traumatic for me to sing or to even be heard singing. Since Mark started teaching me his techniques, I have heard my voice improve with each lesson. I have followed his methods and techniques, and now I can hear my voice improve and my singing get much better with each passing day. Having a stutter as well, I thought I would never be able to sing at all, but Mark’s teaching has proved me wrong. If he can teach me to sing, he can teach anyone!
